What is chamomile?

Chamomile is a flowering plant in the daisy family. The type most used in skin care is German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla). Its flower extract contains natural compounds such as bisabolol and apigenin, and it has a long history of use in calming teas and skin care products.

Why it is used in eyelid care

Chamomile extract is added to cleansers and wipes for its soothing, comforting feel. It helps balance more active cleansing ingredients, so the product feels gentle on the delicate skin around the eyes. Many people also like it because it is a familiar, plant-based ingredient.

Allergy note

Because chamomile belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae), people who are allergic to ragweed, daisies, marigolds or chrysanthemums may also react to chamomile. If you have one of these allergies, check the ingredient list carefully, or choose a product from our gentle, fragrance-free range.

How to use chamomile products

Use the product as directed on the label. Close your eyes during cleansing and keep the product out of the eye itself. Stop using it if you notice redness, itching or swelling, and talk to a pharmacist or eye care professional if the irritation does not settle.
