What is tea tree oil?
Tea tree oil is an essential oil distilled from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a plant native to Australia. Its best-known component is terpinen-4-ol. It has a fresh, medicinal scent and has been used in skin and hair care for decades.
Why it appears in eyelid products
Tea tree oil is a popular ingredient in eyelid wipes, foams and gel cleansers made for daily lid and lash hygiene. In these products it is always used in a diluted form, blended with gentle cleansers and soothing ingredients such as aloe vera or hyaluronic acid, so the formula cleans the lash line without being harsh.
Using tea tree products safely
Never apply pure, undiluted tea tree oil near your eyes. Use only products made for the eyelid area and follow the label. Close your eyes while cleansing and keep the product out of the eye itself. A light cooling or tingling feeling can be normal. If you notice strong burning, redness or swelling, stop using the product and rinse with clean water. If you have sensitive skin, try a patch test on your inner arm first.
A note for pet owners
Concentrated essential oils, including tea tree oil, can be harmful to cats and dogs. Do not use human eyelid products on pets. Use products made for animals and ask your veterinarian if you are unsure.

Good to know
Always formulated, never used undiluted
Tea tree oil is potent in its raw form, so NOVEHA only uses it pre-diluted inside finished products made for eyelid use. Discontinue use and check with a professional if you notice irritation.
