What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule (a glycosaminoglycan) that the body makes naturally. It is found in the skin, in the connective tissue around joints, and in the eye. Skincare products often use its salt form, sodium hyaluronate, which dissolves easily in water.
Why it is used in eyelid care
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant. That means it attracts and holds water. In eyelid cleansers, wipes and creams, it helps the formula feel hydrating rather than drying, which matters because the skin on the eyelids is some of the thinnest skin on the body. It also gives gels and foams a soft, smooth feel.
Who it suits
Hyaluronic acid is generally well tolerated and is a good choice for people with dry or sensitive skin. It is often paired with other gentle ingredients such as aloe vera, panthenol or ceramides. As with any new product, follow the label directions and stop using it if irritation develops.
Tips for best results
Humectants work best on skin that is slightly damp. After cleansing, pat the area dry gently instead of rubbing. If you use an eye cream, apply a small amount with your ring finger, which naturally uses the lightest pressure.

Good to know
Hydration first
Because hyaluronic acid draws in moisture, it’s often paired with a cream or oil to help lock that hydration in. It’s suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin.
